Cameras
The Waitarere Beach Progressive and Ratepayers Association (WBPRA) have integrated new Beach Warden Cameras (located within the patrol vehicle) to our existing community street cameras.
As of December 2022 the Police have direct access to these cameras to help them respond more quickly to incidents. Further, the WBPRA have an agreement with the Horowhenua Community Camera Trust (HCCT) to extend camera coverage into other areas including Levin, Foxton and Himatangi (police district area). Other areas are planned to be added over time.
Also, both the WBPRA and HCCT have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with our Horowhenua District Council and Levin police to ensure our community has enhanced safety and security arising through these new arrangements. Refer related attachments below.
Key features of these new arrangements include;
- Faster and more effective response by police through 24 by 7 access to our camera systems.
- Local incidents can be linked more widely across Levin police coverage areas
- Enhanced support from Council
- Improved CCTV technology
