Community Garden

Waitarere Beach Community Garden
The Community Garden has been operating for approx. 7 years now and is entirely volunteer run.
We have 4 main vegetable beds which are now being prepared for winter crops etc..
We also have a small herb garden, and peach, apple, lemon and fig trees fruiting in season.
We are thankful for any donations of compost, mulch or seedlings and always find a bed to put them in.
The garden is open to all residents and long term visitors – pick fresh or collect from the vege stall at the entrance to the garden – a great drop off point for any excess fruit or vege that you might have.
At the entrance are two compost bins which we encourage you to drop your food scraps into regularly and which are then used as compost in the vege beds.
On your next walk or drive around the village call in and have a look – next to the garages on the corner of the Hudson Reserve in Park Ave – just before the Waitarere Motor Camp.

Community Garden Update – Autumn 2025
Our beloved Community Garden has been thriving for over seven years, proudly maintained entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers. We’re excited to share what’s growing - and what’s coming up next!
At the moment, four main vegetable beds are being carefully prepared for winter crops, as the changing season brings new opportunities to sow fresh seeds and harvest what’s been lovingly grown.
In addition to the vegetable beds, we also have:
- A small herb garden bursting with aromatic flavours
- A variety of fruiting trees - peach, apple, lemon, and fig - ripening beautifully in their seasons
We always welcome donations of compost, mulch, or seedlings. No matter the size, we’ll find a use for them and are truly grateful for your support in keeping the garden flourishing.
The garden is open to all residents and long-term visitors. Feel free to pick fresh produce directly from the beds or visit our stall at the entrance, where we happily share any surplus with the community. It’s also a great place to drop off any excess fruit or vegetables you may have!
Wanted: Food Scraps for Composting
You will find two compost bins at the garden’s entrance – please we encourage everyone to contribute food scraps regularly. These are lovingly transformed into nutrient-rich compost to feed our vegetable beds.
If you’re nearby, stop in and take a look! You’ll find us next to the garages on the corner of Hudson Reserve in Park Ave, just before the Waitarere Motor Camp.
We look forward to seeing you in the garden!
